Do you offer step conversions for other activities?

Update (2016): Keeping yourself moving with other activities besides swimming and cycling? We’re aware that step conversion for other activities is a hot topic among our members and this is an area we are in the process of reviewing. We'll be sure to let everyone know if anything changes. Until then, read on about our current conversions and how we track movement with other sports and activities.

Global Challenge only offers step conversions for cycling and swimming, as these are the two most popular forms of exercise where the Pulse step count doesn’t reflect the actual level of activity. For swimming, this is obvious: the Pulse isn’t waterproof, so you can’t wear it in the pool. For cycling, the smooth nature of riding a bike means the Pulse doesn’t record all of your movement, so a cycling conversion is provided.  Remember to wear your Pulse while cycling and record the distance you’ve cycled, as the conversion compensates for the amount of movement that the Pulse does record.  

For jogging, a conversion rate isn’t required as you naturally gain more steps jogging than you would walking in the same amount of time. This is also the case for a host of field or court sports such as tennis, squash, badminton, basketball, netball, soccer, football, rugby, hockey, cricket, golf and baseball, where your natural movement provides an accurate reflection of your step count.

For rowing, it’s recommended to wear your Pulse on your wrist to record your activity. For other activities, such as rollerblading, skiing, yoga, Pilates, the gym, it’s recommended to wear your Pulse normally and it will record your natural movement.

Remember - while a big part of the Global Challenge is enjoying the fun and friendly competition, the only person you need to worry about beating is the old you – so keep on moving!
